Tampa City Council > atheists: SHUT UP or BE REMOVED, re POA

Yesterday, for the 4th time we (ATHEISTS OF FLORIDA) went to speak at the Tampa City Council about stopping their prayer ritual (invocation) and this time, out of the blue, we got reprimanded severly about how we do the Pledge of Allegiance.

We had been saying -- and will continue to say -- "one nation, indivisible" (skipping right over the "under God" part), which the city council attorney said was confusing others and warned that it was "unacceptable," "disruptive" and we must stop doing this.

Otherwise, according to Council member Caetano: “WE HAVE GOT TO REMOVE THEM.” He also stated: “IF THEY DON'T LIKE IT, THEY SHOULD KEEP THEIR MOUTHS SHUT."

As for the Pledge, it was officially changed by Congress, and whether we like it or not, that is where the change will need to happen. If the city were to change it themselves, I think there might be other problems. But I'm not sure how else to force attention to the matter.
